Die Wärme kann ausreichen, um in der Nähe brennbare Materialien zu entzünden. Trimethylchlorsilan reagiert kräftig mit Wasser, um gasförmiges HCl zu erzeugen. Basierend auf einem Szenario, in dem die Chemikalie in einen Wasserüberschuss (mindestens 5-facher Wasserüberschuss) verschüttet wird, wird die Hälfte der maximalen theoretischen Ausbeute an Chlorwasserstoffgas in 1,3 Minuten erzeugt.
